Light utilization by plants: benefits and dangers

Photosynthesis - demands and limitations Introduction to the light reaction of photosynthesis will be provided with examples of light harvesting mechanisms that plants, algae and photosynthetic bacteria have evolved on course of their evolution. Demands that plants' productivity scales proportionally to the incident photosynthetically active radiation will be confronted with restrictions given by the kinetic limitations of the key catalytic steps of photosynthetic reactions. Future prospects in photosynthesis engineering will be outlined.
