Advanced Mechanisms of Combustion for IC Engines

Advancing emissions requirements and customers demand for increased performances and fuel efficiency are forcing the diesel engine technology to explore new mechanisms of combustion as well as to keep improving the injection and combustion system to reach innovative solutions to fulfill new targets. In the present lecture two current diesel engine projects of Istituto Motori will be discussed: 1. A light duty diesel engine operating at low temperature premixed combustion (LTPC) for very low exhaust emissions; 2. A large diesel engine for heavy duty applications operating at high boost air pressure with new generation of common rail injection system for high performance and low emissions.
